Nestle, which is a multinational corporation based in Switzerland, plans to build the largest bottling plant in California
at McCloud which is at the base of Mt. Shasta. They plan to tap springs in the area which originate at Mt. Shasta. The Native Americans are concerned that this could so deplete the Mountain that it could set off its dormant volcano. Nestle presented a flawed environmental impact report.
They signed a 100 – year contract, unbeknownst to the majority of citizens, which among other things states that they will be able to draw water even if there is not enough left for the citizens. There is a huge controversy going on over this. Check out www.mccloudwatershedcouncil.org for more information. Also, see www.polarisinstitute.org . They have published INSIDE THE BOTTLE, an expose of the bottled water industry.
Coca Cola is also drawing water from Mt. Shasta and no one is monitoring the amount. Water is the liquid gold of this century. The Shasta watershed helps supply water to populated areas in Northern as well as Southern California. Nestle has well-paid lawyers. They will only back away if enough people find out about this, spread the word, and boycott their products.
