Remember how going into Iraq had nothing to do with oil even though the five largest American and British petroleum companies that were kicked out of Iraq 36 years ago were just awarded no bid contracts to develop Iraq’s oil fields? Mission Accomplished indeed! The Decider is victorious!
Gasoline prices have reached a national average of $4 a gallon for the first time.
Across the South, Southwest and the upper Great Plains, the combination of low incomes, high gas prices and heavy dependence on pickup trucks and vans is putting especially heavy pressure on family budgets.
Some farm workers are borrowing gas money from their bosses so they can get to work. Some are switching jobs for shorter commutes. People are giving up meat so they can buy fuel, and gasoline theft is rising. Drivers are running out of gas more often, leaving their cars by the side of the road until they can scrape together gas money.

When the Bush administration was looking for weapons of mass destruction, they should have looked in the oval office. The war in Iraq has cost more American lives than were lost on 9/11 and like his father, George Bush has managed to torpedo the American economy.
Don’t forget the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives too – mostly civilians including women and children. It’s quite barbaric and selfish when you see what a few powerful people can and will do for personal profit.
We shouldn’t let the Oil Baron do this, one way to combat these high prices is to try and show Big Oil that each American can make difference. If everyone decides together to boycott one company, Exxon Mobil, the entire industry will listen.
I’m part of a campaign to boycott Exxon Mobil, the current leader in profits during this energy crisis. It is hosted on The Point, a new social action website. Check it out here thepoint.com/campaigns/send-a-message-to-the-oil-companies
Hopefully, we can all do something about this terrible injustice
